Artist Statement

I am inspired by the human condition illuminated by light and the absence of it to create an emotional charge. Diagnosed in 2016 with a debilitating chronic illness, Endometriosis, has caused a shift from my previous work, anatomical studies of the human mouth. After 8 years into my diagnosis my priorities on self care (mental health, pain management) have allowed me to navigate into a path of new purpose previously cut off due to the disease.

Now maintaining a sense of routine I find myself painting narrative works chronicling the life of someone with Endometriosis. I hope to connect with other persons diagnosed, tell their stories to raise awareness, and change the outdated stigmatized understanding of this dynamic chronic illness.  I am committed to using oil painting as the vehicle to investigate the human condition.
